On GPS...

We have aTomTom 910 portable GPS. When it is good, it is very, very good; when it is bad, it is very, very bad. Its internal drive contains maps of roads in the US, Canada, and Western Europe so a few errors or out of date information is to be expected. Map updates cost extra.

I’ve not had another brand so I can’t rate it relative to others, but it has been very nice having a GPS. It picks or confirms routes, estimates travel time, finds Points of Interest for us, gets us un-lost, always in a calm voice. The sound quality is excellent, important in a noisy truck with two adults that concede they have hearing loss.

Our GPS model is overkill – we wanted the European capability because of a planned driving trip in Spain, but ended up not taking the GPS. We didn’t want to be burdened with it for a month, using it only a week. We were also concerned about losing it, or having it stolen

  1. I will second your comments on GPS....we went with the Garmin Street Pilot, mainly because I already have two small Garmins I use for locating points of biological significance. We rented a car in Germany that came with one, and I decided then it was well worth whatever the price!!!

Congrats on arriving safe and (mostly) sound....and, make sure you mention the rash and what antibiotic you were taking during your next visit to your doc! You probably don't want to take that one anymore :) if you are allergic...

    Have a fun time caravaning!
