Marcia is pointing to the boiler of the Oriental, a 210 foot long Union transport vessel that went down on May 16, 1862. Amazing that there is still something visible. Our leaders live in Oriental, North Carolina, named that because a local resident returned from the wreck with the ship's name board and nailed it to a tree near where he lived.
